“The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.” – Maria Montessori
Star Valley Montessori Family Co-op
Our family co-op is dedicated to working with families to teach and supplement early education. We offer half day morning classes five days a week for families with children ages 2.5-6 years old and their older siblings and parents. Our family co-op teaches authentic Montessori curriculum including practical life, sensorial, language development, mathematics, science and geography. In addition, our families coordinate music, art, foreign language, and movement classes during our morning program. Playtime is an essential part of our children’s physical and emotional development, and we prioritize indoor and/or outdoor playtime every day.
Our program also offers an array of adult and family classes specializing in child development, home education, emotional fortitude, communication, and so much more. Contact us to learn more.
Our Mission
To use authentic Montessori practices to do what is best for your children in all areas of development by doing the following:
Intellectually, by understanding and applying the Montessori curriculum and philosophy. Through an in-depth study of the absorbent mind of the young child as well as research on human brain development, we understand the connection of using the entire body and senses for learning.
Emotionally, by teaching your child to be self-reliant and by preparing the environment in such a way that it brings about order and creative curiosity. We allow your child to follow his/her own instincts and develop into a well-adjusted human being who feels confident and can trust their own judgement.
Spiritually, by understanding the secret of childhood is that they each come with individual instincts and abilities and by letting them discover just what they are. We allow them to find and pursue their own time clock, and let them develop at their own pace without interruption.
Physically, by providing nutritious fresh food, a lot of fresh air, and physical activities. We remember that your child learns through movement. A Montessori environment allows for constant use of both large and small muscles.
Socially, by allowing children to interact with one another and by teaching them grace and courtesy so they fit well into any social situation with children or adults.
Forest School
Our new Forest School program starts March 1st! Star Valley Forest School will operate year-round in the Afton area, rain or shine. We will explore our local parks and forest lands from Smoot to Grover. On days when it is too cold to be outside all day, the children will come inside for nature activities and science lessons.
